The reasons why Aldrine Kibet looks up to Michael Olunga.

Fast rising Harambee Stars prospect Aldrine Kibet has explained why he looks up to Michael Olunga as he continues furthering his development in order to live up to his undoubted potential.

Kibet, who has been earmarked as a key player for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host alongside Tanzania and Uganda, is determined to make a significant impact on the tournament.

Kibet was a standout performer in last season’s CECAFA U-18 Boys’ Championships and is currently honing his skills at the Nastic Soccer Academy in Tarragona.

He is eagerly looking forward to breaking into the Gimnastic side, following in the footsteps of Amos Wanjala, who has become a regular for the U-18 team.

Additionally, Kibet represented Kenya at the COSAFA tournament in South Africa, where he gained valuable experience despite limited playing time.

The young star has expressed special praise for Michael Olunga, explaining why the Harambee Stars captain is his local role model. “Of course, there are players who inspire me. I especially admire Michael Olunga because of the way he plays,” Kibet said.

“Just that hold up play. It is very impressive. There is of course that hat-trick he scored the other day against Zimbabwe. The range of his scoring is just impressive and he inspires me to want to get to that level.”

Kibet's ultimate dream is to play for FC Barcelona, having already achieved his goal of starting his professional career in Spain. He believes that playing for Tarragona FC will pave the way for him to achieve his aspiration of featuring for the Spanish giants, which is his favorite team.

“I am living my dream because since I was a kid it has always been my dream to come to Barcelona, Spain. I always look up to FC Barcelona because they play good football, tiki-taka… the (Pep) Guardiola kind of football, my dream is not to go watch FC Barcelona play, I have to play for them,” Kibet disclosed in an earlier interview with  the media last March.

As Kibet continues to develop his skills and gain experience, he remains focused on his goal of playing for Barcelona and making a significant impact on the international stage with the Harambee Stars.
