CAF Men's XI
CAF maintained the 3-4-3 formation from last season and eight players from the previous year maintained their places in the team.
Manchester United’s Andre Onana (Cameroon) and an unchanged back three from 2023: Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal), Cancel Mbemba (DRC) and Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), made up the rear guard for the 2024 team.
Sofyan Amrabat (Morocco) and Mohammed Kudus (Ghana) kept their places in the team for this year, while Yves Bissouma (Mali) and Franck Kessie (Ivory Coast) got in the 2024 squad, displacing Frank Zambo Anguissa (Cameroon) and Thomas Partey (Ghana), who both featured last year.
Up front, Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, the CAF Men's Player of the Year, forced his way into the squad, replacing Sadio Mane on the left flank, while his compatriot Victor Osimhen and Egypt's Mohamed Salah kept their places in the team.
Like the rest of the awards on the night, CAF placed a premium on the AFCON; hence, the like of Brahim Diaz, who starred for Real Madrid last season in their LALIGA and Champions League double, was a conspicuous omission.
