Two second half world class strikes guided Maroons FC past seven-time Uganda Premier League champions Express FC at the Luzira Prison Grounds, on Thursday.

Fred Amaku and Ronald Orombi were the punishers as the Prison Warders detained the hapless Red Eagles in a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Amaku struck from distance in the 50th minute with an absolute howitzer that deflected off goalkeeper Abdu Kimera to put Maroons ahead.

The attacker had initially been adjudged for offside in the first half as he thought he had given his team a 27th-minute lead.

Three minutes past the hour-mark, Orombi added a second, another thunderbolt from distance past the helpless Kimera.

Express will rue missed opportunities as both Joshua Muwanguzi and Isaac Wagoina failed to convert from the service of winger Alpha Thierry Ssali, who was their biggest threat on the evening.

Despite the victory, Maroons have stayed sixth on the log but with 34 points in 22 games.

They have also managed to end a six-game winless run which had seen them lose and draw three apiece.

On the other hand, its now three successive defeats for Express under new head coach Baker Mbowa. They sit ninth with 29 points in 22 games.
