The former Wazito midfielder netted two penalties in either half.

Kariobangi Sharks finally ended their torrid run of four consecutive losses by beating Mathare United 2-1 at a rain-soaked Kasarani Annex on Tuesday afternoon.

Sharks faced Mathare in a Slum Derby hoping to halt their bad run of four consecutive matches without a win. Mathare on the other hand came into the clash hoping to get one over their slum rivals.

Sharks opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Tyson Otieno's well-taken penalty, putting a broad smile on the faces of their fans, including the watching owner, Nick Mwendwa.

Their lead would not last though, as Sharks then conceded a penalty of their own just four minutes later. Curtis Wekesa placed the shot into the bottom right corner which left Adisa Omar helpless.

The equalizer injected life into the Slum Boys, as they started creating waves of attack.

Winger Ronald Bereto would run at Leonlevit Otieno in the 29th minute, but his resulting cross was hit too hard and fast for Daniel 'Van Persie' Otieno to get on the end of.

Next to test Sharks' resolve would be Godfrey Ochieng in the 35th minute, but his lowly drilled shot went just wide.

Sharks would then get their nerve together and tried to work the ball into the box before a Mathare United player handballed the ball inside the 18-yard area, but the appeal for a penalty fell on deaf ears.

Sharks' boss, William Muluya decided to make a change, subbing on Izzak Wasambo for Paul Otieno.

They got the chance to go ahead three minutes later, and Tyson Otieno repeated the same magic as he did with his first to restore the lead for the visitors through another stuttering run to take the penalty.

The deficit would then force Mathare head coach, Samuel Koko into making two changes to give the side some attacking impetus. In came Tony Odhiambo and Elijah Mwanzia for Steve Kimari and Gideon Were.

Rains would then start pouring down on the ground, with fans attending the game being forced to seek shelter anywhere they could.

Keith Imbali had the chance to level the tie in the 75th minute when he was set through on goal by Fidel Otieno with a fantastic through pass off the right flank, but his shot sailed wide off the mark.

The Slum Boys continued to pile pressure onto the Sharks' defence, and they forced a corner kick in the 85th minute. A well-executed delivery by Wekesa caused confusion in the box after Sharks' Keeper Kevin Ouru nearly fumbled the ball into his own net, but it sailed wide for another free kick.

In the end, Sharks held on to their nerves to get a crucial three points.
