The leap can be attributed to the relatively decent performances against some of the continental powerhouses.

Uganda's National women's football team, the Cranes, have continued their steady ascendancy on the FIFA Women's World rankings.

In the rankings released on Friday by the global football custodians, the Crested Cranes are placed 150th, from 155th, where they sat in the previous August release.

The leap can be attributed to the relatively decent performances against some of the continental powerhouses.

The Cranes drew one-all against Algeria in the Women Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Njeru. The latter would go on to sail through by a 3-2 aggregate victory.

The Crested Cranes also beat Cameroon 2-0 in the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers before the latter eliminated them on a 3-2 aggregate win.

Uganda further tested themselves against 2022 WAFCON runners-up Morocco, with the first game ending 1-1, while the second had the latter win 3-0.

While Uganda ranks 150 in the world, they are placed a decent 29th in Africa with 1007.21 points.

The Crested Cranes sit two places (Africa ranking) adrift of Tanzania, which is 27th (146th in the world), while they are a place ahead of Kenya, which is 30th (151st).

Regional neighbours Rwanda sit 36th on the continent and 167th worldwide, while Burundi and South Sudan come 41st (177th) and 45 (190th), respectively.

On the other hand, despite dropping two places, Nigeria still tops the African rankings as they sit 34th ahead of runners-up South Africa and third-placed Morocco.
