Uganda upsets favourites Senegal, beating them 1-0 in their CHAN Group B game.

Uganda's solitary goal in the first-half was enough for them to beat wasteful Senegal in their CHAN Group B encounter.

The 19 May 1956 stadium in Algeria hosted Uganda and Senegal in their second game of the group. The West African team had the better chances on the day but were victims of their own profligacy and, in the later stages of the game, indiscipline, all to the favour of the East Africans, whose first-half goal was enough to take all three points.

Milton Karisa fires Uganda to victory

27-year-old Vipers SC forward Milton Karisa was the hero of the night for his country.

Karisa got on the end of a delivery from Villa Kampala's Kenneth Semakula to put the Cranes ahead.

Karisa thought he had won a chance for his team to extend their lead from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute, but VAR had other ideas.

His goal was the only shot on target for Uganda; they were pegged back for most of the game and forced into defensive duties by the more fancied Senegal.

Senegal wasteful on the night

Senegal were the more fancied side going into the tie, and Uganda's victory was an upset in every sense of the word.

Senegal dominated the game as expected, but the West Africans wasted chances as quickly as they created them.

The Teranga Lions had 18 shots on the night, with only four within the frame of the goal and none of them crossing the goal line.

Before Uganda went ahead with Karisa's strike, Senegal had the chance to draw first blood from the penalty spot.

Legason Nafiani Alionzi, in goal for Uganda, anticipated Cheikh Sidibe's strike in the 26th minute to keep the game scoreless. The miss by Sidibe was only one of the three big chances Senegal missed on the night.

Senegal also had a late flurry handicapped by a red card to substitute Libasse Ngom in the 83rd minute.

Uganda now leads Group B with four points, following a draw with DR Congo in their first match.

Senegal drop to second place on three points from their win against Cote d'Ivoire in their previous game.
