Fatuwa was named on the best Under-20 2021 Africa Cup of Nations team alongside Uganda Hippos duo Derrick Kakooza and Aziz Kayondo.

Ghanaian youngster Abdul Fatawu has joined Leicester City in the English Championship, the club has confirmed.

Fatawu is a common face to many Ugandans after his heroics in the Under-20 2021 Africa Cup of Nations helped Ghana beat Uganda 2-0 in the final.

Fatuwa was then named the most valuable player of the tournament and was named in the tournament team of the season alongside Uganda Hippos duo Derrick Kakooza and Aziz Kayondo.

While the two Ugandans went on to seal deals in America and Latvia, Fatawu took the European path to Sporting Lisbon’s academy in Portugal.

Kakooza signed for Valmiera FC in the Latvian topflight before branching to ENPPI in Egypt.

Kayondo went to Real Monarchs in the Major League Soccer Next PRO before crossing the waters to the Czech Republic, Israel and then CD Leganes' second side in Spain.

On the other side, Fatawu made his senior debut for the Portuguese giants in July 2022, being valued at £ 500,000 (Shs.2.4bn).

Fatawu has represented his country on 14 occasions, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He has crossed over to Leicester on a one-year loan deal.
