In another heinous turn of events in the netball fraternity in the country, elected Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) president Sarah Babirye Kityo has been remanded to Luzira Prisons till tomorrow for further hearing and bail application.

Kityo was arraigned at the anti-corruption court earlier today after her arrest yesterday on accusations of funds mismanagement.

The embattled UNF boss pleaded not guilty to the charges before the case got adjourned, as the court verified her sureties for the bail application.

It's alleged that Kityo mismanaged funds to the tune of Ugx. 186 million.

She has been on forced leave for months, with an ad-hoc normalisation committee currently running federation affairs after the National Council of Sports (NCS) withdrew the Certificate of Recognition.

The events stroll back to the continuing backlash between Kityo and NCS Secretary General Patrick Ogwel after each accused the other of misappropriation of funds and accountability issues.

Meanwhile, this is the second time this year that Kityo has been arrested and sent behind bars over similar corruption accusations.

The back and forth has taken a toll on the country's senior netball team's participation in continental and international events.

For the same reasons, the She Cranes were forced into withdrawing from the African Netball Championship that is ongoing in Botswana.

It's still far from certain whether they will form part of the January England-organised Vitality Netball Nations Cup.
