Sabila will take charge of the second-round qualifier between DR Congo’s FC St-Eloi Lupopo and Sekhukhune United from South Africa.

Experienced FIFA referee Ali Chelangat Sabila has been handed international duty in the second round of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.

Sabila will take charge of the second-round qualifier between DR Congo’s FC St-Eloi Lupopo and Sekhukhune United from South Africa.

The match will be played on Sunday 1st October, at the Omnisports Stadium Complex in Kinshasa.

Sabila will be assisted by compatriots Ronald Katenya and Isa Masembe as the first and second assistants.

Another Ugandan George Olemu has been appointed the fourth official of the game.

The Congolese outfit, which was until May this year the home of Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Katerega, is trailing by 3-1 from the first leg that was played in Polokwane, South Africa.

The winner of the match will qualify for the group stages.

Confidence

The quartet will hope to perform at their best and improve the country’s rating after the continental body continued shunning Ugandan officials for major assignments.

Sabila and Katenya recently officiated the CAF Champions League match between Sudan's Al Hilal and South Sudan's Salaam FC Bor played on August 26th.

Recently, CAF released a list of 32 referees and 33 assistant referees to undergo a preparation course for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with none from Uganda.

East African neighbours Kenya has three, Burundi two, while Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia and Rwanda have one each.
