Long time Ugandan football kingpins Express FC are enduring an indifferent Uganda Premier League campaign, so uncharacteristic of a side that were crowned champions just two years back.
The 2020/21 UPL champions have yet to show up this season, never mind playing 18 times, the most of any side in the topflight.
'Mukwano Gwabangi' occupies a lowly 11th on the 15-team log with just 19 points, averaging a single point every match.
"We are aware of the current situation as a club; it's something that worries us, but we're also working to put things right," Express head coach James Odoch conceded in an interview with Pulse Sports Uganda.
Odoch's charges have only collected four victories all season, including a boardroom win over Busoga United.
That latter victory, which ironically didn't demand a sweat, came four months ago and served as their most recent.
On the other side, the seven-time champions have lost and drawn seven apiece so far this season.
"We are in a terrible state in the league, but we are working around the clock to turn it around. If we can at least get results at home, then it will give us positives," added Odoch.
Only Busoga (11), UPDF FC, Blacks Power FC and Onduparaka FC, who have lost nine each, have suffered more defeats than the historical powerhouses.
In the entire campaign, Express has found the back of the net just 14 times, averaging a hideous 0.7 goals every match.
"We are struggling for goals and only relying on one player, Allan Kayiwa. So other players have to step up as well."
Since the Busoga 'win,' the Wankulukuku-based side has registered six losses and five stalemates in an 11-game run.
In that period, they have been as blunt as it gets, scoring just five times whilst generously leaking 14.
They have also failed to score in seven of those matches. Only Allan Kayiwa (two), Anwar Ntege (two) and Ivan Mayanja (one) have managed to find the target since the Busoga game in November 2022.
"We have to replicate the Uganda Cup results where we at least score goals. But, we are doing everything in our might to make things right," an optimistic Odoch asserted.
Odoch and his troops can not afford to allow their season slip away further, as they sit just seven points above the relegation zone.
