The Soldiers' head coach has addressed his team's defeat to K'Ogalo in the FKF Premier League match that was played on Saturday afternoon.

Ulinzi Stars head coach Anthony 'Modo' Kimani has shared his thoughts on his team's 1-0 defeat to Gor Mahia in a thrilling Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

The Soldiers were dealt a blow as they succumbed to a first-half goal, masterfully executed by Gor Mahia's Kevin Juma, following a corner kick where Ulinzi's defense faltered in clearing their lines.

Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, Ulinzi's attackers, Boniface Muchiri and Ben-Stanley Omondi, struggled to capitalise on them.

In a post-match interview, Kimani candidly shared his thoughts on the game, acknowledging the challenges they faced and highlighting areas for improvement.

"It was not a good match for us because we were playing at home, and all expectations were that we were going to win," he admitted, reflecting the high hopes of the home crowd.

"We knew that we were going to face a very formidable opponent, a very tough team to handle. However, we knew what our strengths are, and we knew if we exploited our strengths to the fullest, we could have earned maximum points, but that never happened."

The coach pinpointed the team's main undoing in the match which was his second in charge of the four-time Kenyan champions.

"Our main undoing was sharpness in our attacking third. We created a few opportunities but were not able to fully utilize those particular opportunities,” he concluded.

Kimani, who took over the reins at Ulinzi Stars in early August after the club parted ways with their former coach, Bernard Mwalala, faces a challenging start to his tenure.

The disappointing defeat leaves Ulinzi Stars at the bottom of the table with no points after two matches, having previously lost their opening game 2-1 against Nzoia Sugar.

Looking ahead, Ulinzi Stars' next challenge will be against Bandari FC on Saturday 16 September at Mbaraki Sports Club.

Notably, this match holds added significance as Kimani will be facing his former side. It presents an opportunity for redemption and a chance for Ulinzi Stars to bounce back and secure their first points of the season.
