Boniface, criticised for his lack of impact during Nigeria's World Cup qualifiers, scored in the 60th minute to restore Leverkusen’s lead after Bochum had equalised through Felix Passlack.

This was Boniface’s eighth Bundesliga goal of the season and his first start in seven matches for the German champions.

Despite his goal and energetic display, he was outshone by Garcia, who opened the scoring with a stunning long-range strike and delivered an all-around commanding midfield performance.

The new signing from laLiga side Girona, Garcia, created four chances, completed four key passes, and maintained an 85% pass accuracy, earning him the accolade.

Boniface had two shots and three touches in the opposition box during his 89-minute appearance but struggled with efficiency, completing just one of four dribble attempts.

Meanwhile, Garcia’s composure and creativity proved decisive in securing the win for Leverkusen as they continue their pursuit of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Boniface’s contribution in addition to Garcia’s helped Xabi Alonso and his champions close the gap with leaders Bayern Munich to three points, at least for 24 hours.
