The Nigeria Super Eagles star proved to be the Saviour as Rangers avoided defeat in their Champions League, UCL, qualifier.

Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers proved to be the saviour for Scottish giants Rangers, snatching a late draw against Dynamo Kyiv.

The 29-year-old forward, who joined Rangers last season, has once again demonstrated his value to the club, delivering a crucial goal to keep their hopes of reaching the lucrative group stage alive.

Despite a fantastic debut season at Ibrox, where Dessers scored 22 goals and provided 7 assists, the Nigerian international has faced doubts from a section of the Rangers faithful.

However, time and time again, the striker who netted the first goal of Finidi George’s short stint as Super Eagles coach has proven to be a reliable source of goals for the club.

On Wednesday night, Dessers made another strong case for himself, rescuing Rangers from defeat in their Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv.

The Ukrainian side took the lead against the run of play just before half-time, with Andriy Yarmolenko finding the back of the net.

But Dessers was on hand to level the scores late in the game, ensuring that Rangers who have been advised not to lose their main striker will head into the second leg at Ibrox as favourites to progress.

The goal marked Dessers' first of the new season, having drawn a blank in Rangers' opening Scottish Premiership game.

Rangers fans will be relieved to see their Nigerian star step up when it mattered most, keeping their Champions League dreams alive.

With the second leg looming, Dessers' late heroics have proven once again that he is a valuable asset to the team.

With the transfer window still open, the club will be wise to hold onto their Nigerian talisman, who has demonstrated his importance time and time again in crucial domestic and European fixtures.
