Timothy Ouma has now linked up with Harambee Stars in Lilongwe, with three more defenders in line to join the camp within the week.

Joseph Okumu is set to join the Harambee Stars camp in Lilongwe, Malawi, as the national team ramps up preparations for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Okumu's arrival is highly anticipated as the team gears up for their matches against Burundi on June 7 and Ivory Coast on June 11, 2024.

The defender has been fighting against time to be fit in time for the crucial double header. Head Coach Engin Firat is optimistic about the impact Okumu will have on the team's defensive line.

Okumu's inclusion is part of a strategic effort to bolster the squad as they aim to secure maximum points in the qualifiers. "Joseph brings a wealth of experience and solidity to our defense. His presence will be invaluable as we face these critical matches," Firat remarked.

In addition to Okumu, midfielder Timothy Ouma joined the national team camp on Monday, 3rd June , while defenders Daniel Anyembe and Collins Sichenje are expected to arrive on Tuesday afternoon (4th June).

The team's first training session in Malawi took place on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, where both upcoming matches will be played.

The Harambee Stars, who arrived in Lilongwe on the morning of June 2, are in high spirits as they prepare to host their opponents away from home. Firat noted the positive atmosphere within the squad and their determination to perform well despite the challenges of playing outside Kenya.

"While we would have preferred to play in Nairobi, our past performances in Malawi have been encouraging, and we are confident of achieving favorable results here," Firat said.

To further strengthen the team, Firat called up midfielder Clifton Miheso to replace Eric Johanna, highlighting Miheso’s experience as a crucial factor.

The addition of Timothy Ouma, Daniel Anyembe, and Collins Sichenje is expected to add depth and versatility to the squad.
