The seven-time league champions are set to face newcomers Mbarara City, and head coach James Odoch is brimming with optimism about his team's prospects.

As the new StarTimes Uganda Premier League season dawns, traditional powerhouse Express FC is poised to embark on another thrilling journey, kicking off with a home game this Saturday.

The seven-time league champions are set to face newcomers Mbarara City, and head coach James Odoch is brimming with optimism about his team's prospects.

Especially with the return of last season's top goal scorer, Allan Kayiwa, who renews his commitment to the squad alongside left-back Arthur Kiggundu.

"Mbarara City is a formidable opponent with a skilled coach,” Odoch emphasised during the pre-match press conference.

“But I believe that, given that this is our first home game, the players will be eager to delight the fans."

He added: "The comeback of Allan Kayiwa and Arthur Kiggundu is a significant morale boost for the team."

On the other hand, Allan Kayiwa has called upon the fans to turn out in force and provide unwavering support.

"As players, we are well-prepared to face Mbarara City FC, and our aim is to secure a positive outcome. We urge all our fans to come out in large numbers and inspire us to victory."

The former Vipers forward, who netted 13 goals in the previous season, one more than Charles Bbaale, is expected to continue his goal-scoring prowess as he leads the team once again this season.

Mbarara City FC, led by former Express coach Wasswa Bbosa, will be determined to bounce back from their 1-0 home defeat to NEC FC on match day one.

Bbosa holds a special place at Wankulukuku, having guided the Red Eagles to the 2021 league title and the CECAFA Kagame Cup.
