Victor Osimhen edges closer to a potential return for Napoli this weekend in a clash with Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta.
Osimhen has been out of action since picking up a hamstring muscle injury while representing Nigeria in an international friendly against Saudi Arabia on October 13, and this has seen him miss the last six games for Napoli.
Nigeria also felt his absence, as the Super Eagles struggled without him and could only salvage draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Ballon d’Or nominee returned to the gym a couple of weeks ago and could make a full return this weekend.
Osimhen and two other injured Napoli players took part in training
Alex Meret and Piotr Zielinski are also nursing injuries and are in a race to feature against Atalanta this weekend.
However, according to Napoli's latest updates, Osimhen and the duo worked with their teammates for the initial part of Wednesday’s squad training session before departing to work in the gym. The trio are working to be fit for the upcoming clash against Atalanta on November 25.
Napoli failed to win two games in a row before the international break and have struggled in front of goal without their main man, Osimhen. The 24-year-old scored six goals in eight Serie A games this season before his injury.
Osimhen is set to feature for the first time under the new manager
As reported by Pulse Sports, Napoli have appointed Italian manager Walter Mazzarri to replace Rudi Garcia, who was let go following a poor start to the season.
Mazzarri is set to take charge of his first game against Atalanta this weekend, and he will be hoping to kick off with a win.
Osimhen is set to feature under his fourth manager since joining Napoli, after previously playing under the tutelage of Gennaro Gattusso, Luciano Spalletti, and Garcia.
