Months after being named the undisputed 2022 256 Footballer of the Year, Uganda Cranes deputy skipper Khalid Aucho has finally received his award.

To receive the coveted accolade, the colossus midfielder beat Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Dennis Onyango and Vipers SC talisman Yunus Sentamu.

"It's an honour to receive this award, it's evidence that my hard work is being seen and recognized," Aucho spoke to Pulse Sports Uganda.

"I really would like to thank my fans in Uganda and at Yanga for voting me the best player, I can only promise to repay them with more work."

"Last year, as a team we worked really hard and won a lot. We have done the same this and hopefully, I can win the award again," Aucho added.

Aucho had a hugely successful 2022 with his side, Young Africans SC as he steered them to the 2021/22 Tanzania Premier League, the Community Shield and the Azam Sports Cup.

He has repeated the feat in the preceding season with Yanga, which also had them reach the final of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in history.

Previously, the award was clinched by Allan Okello in 2019, Nicholas Wadada in 2020 and Taddeo Lwanga for 2021.
