The defending champions picked their sixth win of the season after seeing off Wadadia, while Zetech salvaged a point in a 2-2 draw against Bunyore.

Vihiga Queens recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Wadadia in an FKF Women’s Premier League match staged at the Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, Queens maintained their lead at the top of the table with a one-point buffer, while Wadadia remained seventh in the standings.

Queens were desperate to get back to winning ways, having succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against Ulinzi Starlets at home in their previous game last week on Saturday.

The Boniface Nyamunyamu-coached side dictated matters from the start, and they found the back of the net through Maurine Ater, who scored in the 11th minute to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

They went into the break with Queens holding a 1-0 lead, and though Wadadia came strongly in the second stanza, they failed to get an equalizer.

At Gems Cambridge International School, Zetech Sparks were held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Bunyore Starlets.

Zetech were coming into the match having played just their second draw of the season when they registered a goalless stalemate with Trans Nzoia Falcons on February 4, and they were hoping to move to the seventh spot on the table.

On the other hand, Starlets were in high spirits following their 2-0 win over Kayole Starlets in Luanda.

Sparks came from behind to produce the result after going down 2-0 in the first half.

Maria Ambila and Lucy Andacho scored for Starlets before Sparks found their rhythm in the second half. They scored two goals within ten minutes after the restart, courtesy of Puren Alukwe and Mercy Njeri.

The result saw Zetech remain seventh on the league table with nine points, while Starlets also remained fourth with 16 points.

Elsewhere, Ulinzi Starlets suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat at the hands of Gaspo Women in a match played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Starlets put in a sub-par performance by their standards and were outfought by a determined Gaspo team, who took full advantage of some fortune in the attacking third and put in a brave rearguard action to secure the win.

Emily Andanyi and Elizabeth Wambui scored the goals in the 40th and 56th minute in a win that saw Gaspo maintain their one-point gap below table leaders Vihiga Queens.

Ulinzi, on the other hand, remained in the eighth position with 13 points from eight matches played this season.
