The win has increased Boniface Nyamunyamu's charges' chances of winning the FKF Women's Premier League.

Vihiga Queens have reclaimed the top spot in the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League (FKFWPL) after a 3-0 win over Wadadia at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Maureen Ater's brace and a goal from Anita Namatta saw Vihiga leapfrog Gaspo Women back to the summit of the standings with 49 points from 20 matches while Wadadia remained fourth on the log after a seventh defeat of the season.

After the teams traded early attacks, Vihiga took the lead in the second minute when Anita Namatta leaped highest at the far post to head home from Janet Moraa’s teasing cross.

The goal arrived in the same passage of play which saw Diana Tembesi come off his line to thwart a dangerous moment from Jackline Chesang at the other end.

Vihiga doubled their advantage in the 19th minute as sloppy defending by Wadadia allowed Phelitus Kadari to tee up Ater, who stroked home a left-footed shot from inside the penalty area to put the visitors firmly in control.

Queens eased off in the remainder of the first half and allowed Wadadia to see more of the ball, though the visitors offered little in the way of penetration and goalkeeper Tembesi was left mostly untested. The score remained 2-0 in favor of the visitors until the halftime interval.

Vihiga took their time moving back through the gears in the second half, but they duly extended their lead in 67th minute when Moraa pulled the ball back for Ater to shoot home from close range and make it 3-0.

Substitute Diana Cherono almost added to the scoreline with five minutes remaining with a low shot that looked destined for the bottom corner, but Wadadia's goalkeeper made a fine save diving to her right.

Vihiga looked to add to the score line in what remained of the game with their strikers all hungry to impress after rising off the bench – but the score remained 3-0 to the full-time whistle.
