Vinicius Jr received his marching orders against Valencia and is set to sit out two games.

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has been handed a two-match ban after receiving a red card in a dramatic encounter against Valencia.

Vinicius Jr was shown a straight red card for pushing goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski during the second half of Madrid's 2-1 comeback La Liga win at Valencia on January 3. The push was initially missed by referee Cesar Soto Grado, who needed to check the pitchside monitor before sending the 24-year-old off.

The Brazilian will be unavailable for the home match against Las Palmas at the Santiago Bernabeu on January 19 and the game against Real Valladolid on January 25.

It was the second red card for the Brazilian in Madrid colours since his €45 million signing in 2018 when he was 18. Before stepping up to the first team, he spent a brief stint with the reserves, playing just five games, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

His first career red card came in a reserve match against Celta B. Despite scoring Madrid’s only goal in the 1-1 draw, the referee, Alexander González, judged that Vinicius had simulated a foul near the area, resulting in a second yellow and his only dismissal.

Before beginning his suspension, Vinicius will be available for Madrid's Supercopa de Espana on January 9. Real Madrid lead La Liga standings with 43 points after 19 matches, two points adrift of second placed Atletico Madrid who have a game in hand.

Vinicius boasts of eight La Liga goals and has found the ack of the net in the Champions League five times.

The Carlo Ancelloti-coached side have lost twice but have scored the second highest number of goals in the division after Barcelona.
