Vipers Sports Club head coach Alex Isabirye has attacked Kampala Capital City Authority interim coach Jackson Mayanja over his emotional post-match press conference.

The Uganda Premier League title holders pipped KCCA FC 1-0 with a late Milton Karisa goal in a tense game that could have gone either way.

Mayanja blasted the center referee labeling him as a 'problem' to Ugandan football in his now infamous post-match address.

"Today, the best team lost. I want to look straight into the camera without fear and say it, and I don't care what happens," a visibly enraged Mayanja said.

"Mashood (Ssali) is a problem to this country, that I say," he said before turning the same dismissive attitude to journalists who pressed for elaboration.

Isabirye says his counterpart's problem stemmed from his pre-match mind games in which he promised to wrap up the league title race with victory at the St Mary's Stadium.

"I know the problem came because he (Mayanja) talked a lot before the game; for me, I knew very well that football is played on the playground, not on the media,” Isabirye said.

"I think he's a football coach, not a referee, and I don't expect a referee to be perfect 100%.”

“Because there were some situations where I think we could have won something or a set piece; referees are also human beings,” Isabirye added.

In a related development, FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel (FCDP) has opened disciplinary proceedings against Mayanja for the statements.
