With the stalemate, the Venoms stayed third with 31 points, one and six adrift of runners-up and leaders Kitara FC and BUL FC, respectively.

Vipers SC missed a glorious opportunity to cover some ground in their chase for the Uganda Premier League title after being held by Gaddafi FC to a 0-0 at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende, on Thursday.

The defending champions couldn't capitalize on their dominance to break a resilient Gaddafi defence manned by old boy Bashir Asiku.

With the stalemate, the Venoms stayed third with 31 points, one and six adrift of runners-up and leaders Kitara FC and BUL FC, respectively.

On an uneventful evening, in the first half, the woodwork twice denied Vipers, with both Bright Anukani and Allan Okello attempting to score.

In the second half, Erick Kambale nearly broke the deadlock, but his header sailed inches wide in the 57th minute.

Substitute Abubakali Walusimbi thought he had won it late in the game, but his strike agonizingly sailed wide and above.

Vipers' late surges couldn't yield any fruit as both sides settled for a point.

Livingstone Mbabazi's side will not return to league action till February 24, when they will visit record-holders SC Villa.

On the other side, 13th-placed Gaddafi will be back on February 29 with an away tie against neighbours Busoga United.
