The war in Sudan is forcing CECAFA leadership to find another host for the Kagame Club Championships
CECAFA is alert on the ongoing fighting in Sudan and could be forced to relocate the 2023 Kagame Club Championship that was scheduled for July 15th to 29th.
Fighting broke out on April 15th in Sudan due to a vicious power struggle between the country’s army leadership.

CECAFA Sudan to host Kagame Club Championship, Rwanda for Pan-African Schools
Rwanda and Sudan have confirmed to host the Pan African Schools Championship Zonal qualifier and the CECAFA Kagame Club Championship, respectively.
The situation seems to be getting worse by the day as nations struggle to evacuate their citizens trapped in the country.
CECAFA, in their executive meeting held on Tuesday 25th pressed the red alert as Kenya and Tanzania confirmed that they’re ready to step in if the situation doesn’t normalise.
“The meeting resolved that with the current political situation in Sudan, an alternate standby host is identified for the CECAFA Kagame Super Cup 2023 that Sudan had been awarded,” CECAFA announced adding that;
“Tanzania and Kenya confirmed they would be interested as the standby hosts, and will communicate their position after consultations with their members.”

FOOTBALL Al Hilal evacuate players from war torn Sudan
Malawian international Gerald Phiri Jr is among the foreign-based players who have been evacuated from Sudan.
The body said that they’ll reach out to the Sudanese Football Association to communicate their position and way forward.
The tournament was last held in August 2021 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania with the then Ugandan Champions Express emerging champions.
