Ounahu scores remarkable goal on Marseille debut
Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi has gotten off to a great start to his Marseille career, scoring a blinder in his first game for the club against Nantes.
Ounahi was the subject of an intense transfer saga involving many clubs after incredible performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but Marseille was able to beat other competitors to his signature for a reported €10 million (including add-ons) and it appears the Morocco international has already started to repay the club’s investment in him.
Ounahi made his debut for Marseille in their 2-0 win over Nantes, replacing Alexis Sanchez after 74 minutes, and scoring that incredible goal to round off L’OM’s victory.
Ounahi chose Marseille from a host of other clubs
Ounahi would be glad to start off his Marseille career with a goal of the highest quality to settle his nerves, after causing a media frenzy with his winter transfer saga that eventually saw him settle with Les Minots.
After helping Morocco become the first African country to reach the World Cup Semifinals in December, Ounahi could have ended up at Barcelona or Leeds, and was reportedly close to joining Napoli as well, but chose to remain in France with Marseille after leaving Angers.
It remains to be seen if he will rue missing out on the ‘bigger’ transfers, but given the way, he has started at Marseille, that is unlikely to happen.
