A video shows how the players on the AIC team of the season voted for Player of the Year.

Super Eagles ace Victor Osimhen has won the Italian Footballer’s Association (AIC) Award, and during the ceremony, the striker revealed how he voted.

The 24-year-old missed out on the league-assigned Player of the Campaign award, losing out to his teammate Khivcha Kvaratskelia, but has now been crowned Player of the Year by his peers.

How players voted

The AIC Player of the Season Award is voted on by the players in the league, which includes Osimhen.

The Nigerian striker also spearheaded the attack on the AIC team of the season:

Mike Maignan (Milan); Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Napoli), Kim Min-jae (Napoli), Alessandro Bastoni (Inter), Theo Hernandez (Milan); Stanislav Lobotka (Napoli), Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter), Nicolo Barella (Inter); Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli), Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Rafael Leao (Milan).

With the 11 players on the podium, each of them was asked who they voted for, and Osimhen, without hesitating, said, “Myself.”

The Nigerian also got votes from Rafael Leao and even his teammate Khivcha Kvaratskelia, despite being Osimhen’s closest competitor for the award. Stanislas Lobotka and Giovanni Dic Lorenzo, however, opted for their European teammate, voting Kvaratskhelia as Player of the Year.

Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglou paid respect to Osimhen but stated that he voted for Kvaratskhelia. His teammate, Bastoni, on the other hand, as well as Milan’s Mike Maignan, voted for the Nigerian.

Barella voted for Di Lorenzo, while Min-Jae who now plays for Bayern Munich, and Milan’s Theo Hernandez were not on the podium.
