On Monday, it was formally confirmed that the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward would no longer represent his country, with his final appearance coming against eventual champions Spain at Euro 2024.

Giroud took to Instagram to make the announcement, stating: “The dreaded moment has arrived: the moment to bid farewell to the French national team.
“My career with the French national team hasn’t always been a smooth ride. I’ve sometimes doubted and suffered criticism, but deep down I’ve never stopped believing.
“Hard work, humility and prayers have helped me through the difficult times. Thanks to the unfailing support of my wife and my four wonderful children, I’ve always found the strength to fight and come back even stronger each time.”
Giroud’s best goals for France
Giroud ends his international career as France's top scorer, netting an impressive 57 goals in 143 appearances. He surpassed the previous record held by Thierry Henry during France's run to the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker netted a variety of goals for Les Blues throughout his 13-year spell with the side after making his debut in November 2011 against the USA.
He notched his first goal in his third appearance, scoring in France's 2-1 victory over Germany in February 2012 and his final strike came in Les Blues’ 3-2 friendly win against Chile in March 2024.

Giroud has departed AC Milan after three years in Milanello and has agreed to a deal to join Major League Soccer side LAFC this summer.
