At the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland, Real Madrid stretched their European success by winning a sixth UEFA Super Cup trophy following a 2-0 victory over Atalanta on Wednesday night.
This time they did it with one of the most coveted player on their side, Kylian Mbappe. The stars have certainly aligned as Mbappe got his first goal in a Real Madrid shirt.
The first half was well balanced with both teams appearing not to threat each others' goalkeepers. But the intensity was high and you could see the intent in the teams to win the game.
Despite the teams not being able to find the net, Real Madrid came closest with Rodrigo's shot rocking the crossbar and flying out into the stands.
Mbappe was well received by his home fans as they yelled and jeered when he was fouled, demanding bookings for the players who pressed hard on their star player. They chanted and stayed on their feet whenever he had the ball.
The second half was more lively with Atalanta almost getting the lead through Pasalic who rose highest for a cross, forcing Thibaout Courtois to pull off a spectacular diving save.
Vinicius Jr, the show man, rallied and waved to the fans and caused sheer pandemonium. Antonio Rudiger on the other hand kept attempting his audacious forward runs.
Ademola Lookman was the brightest in the Atalanta team in the second half but his stepover attempts could not fool Rudiger.
Real Madrid broke the deadlock after 59 minutes and from then, it was the all white show with everyone from Real Madrid wanting to have a shot at goal.
Mbappe got his dream start to his Real Madrid career after scoring from a Jude Bellingham assist at the 68th minute to stetch the lead to 2-0.
From this match alone, it was clear that Real Madrid is planning to continue to dominate Europe for the next decade.
