A disturbing incident occurred after the AFCON 2025 qualifier between Libya and Benin as the host attacked the coach and officials of the Cheetahs.

Libya and the Benin Republic shared spoils in the last group game of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Tripoli.

Benin secured a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Libya in their final group match, which was enough for them to qualify for the tournament.

Libya came into the game optimistic after a surprising 1-0 win over Rwanda on matchday five.

In contrast, Benin had narrowly missed defeating Nigeria earlier, with a late header from Victor Osimhen earning the Super Eagles a draw.

The Super Eagles finished first in the group and Benin will join the Super Eagles as representatives from their group in the AFCON 2025 tournament.

Meanwhile, According to Benin Football on X, it was reported that head coach Gernot Rohr and a member of the team's security personnel were assaulted by a Libyan policeman.

The Benin team was reportedly held in the stadium locker room for an extended period due to security concerns. After being allowed to leave, the assault on Rohr and the security official took place.

Recall that Libya held Nigeria's Super Eagles hostage for over 20 hours in Benghazi before their qualifier match was abandoned.

CAF fined the Libyan Football Federation for similar misconduct and granted Nigeria a 3-0 victory.
