Obita was born in England to Ugandan parents but chose to play for the former. He has played for the English under-18, under-19 and under-20.

Jordan Obita came off the bench to score a brilliant solo goal as Hibernian beat FC Luzern from Switzerland 3-1 in the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round on Thursday night in Scotland.

The England-born-Ugandan left-back started from the bench but was introduced immediately after the break by coach Lee Johnson.

The Hibees had been held to a goalless draw after the end of the first half, forcing the coach to make some adjustments.

He pulled off French forward Youan Elie and slotted in Obita before the second stanza kicked off.

The hosts did not hesitate as Joe Newell opened the scores 19 seconds into the half but failed to hold onto it as Ismajl Beka headed in from a corner ten minutes later.

Dylan Vante restored the lead in the 73rd minute, just before Obita’s moment of magic arrived.

The left-back-cum-winger darted in to intercept a cross intended for Marco Burch in Hibernian’s half and ran half the pitch’s length to the visitor’s box before placing it to the far-right corner for the third goal in the 90th minute.

That was his first for the club and his debut goal in a European club championship.

The Scottish side takes a healthy lead to Switzerland next Thursday.

The aggregate winner from the tie will face English Premier League side Aston Villa.
