The Reds forward ended speculation regarding his future on Merseyside by agreeing to a lucrative two-year extension last week, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Salah followed up the renewal with his 18th assist of the 2024-25 Premier League season in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham, adding to his 27 top-flight goals.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, the Arsenal legend praised the Liverpool star’s ability to score consistently and set up goals before analysing what separates Salah from other players, citing his adaptability.

“When you can do both (score and assist), it’s just outstanding,” said the former Arsenal striker. “What he has been doing, the desire that he has to adapt and change his game to be able to be better and last, that’s very important.

“You don’t have a lot of players that want to adapt and change when they are at the top. They start to do it when they struggle. It’s too late.

“The assists were always there but now the numbers are just ridiculous and what he did is legendary.

“The most valuable player. Van Dijk (is) the most important. (But Salah) is the most valuable player.”

What’s next for Liverpool?

The Reds travel to Leicester City on Easter Sunday, seeking their 24th top-flight triumph to take them one step closer to a second Premier League title.
