Rooney will return to Old Trafford to feature in a legends match against Celtic on September 7th.

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is set to make his return to Old Trafford for the first time since 2017.

The current Plymouth Argyle manager will feature in a legends match against Celtic on September 7th.

Rooney's last competitive appearance for United came in the 2017 Europa League final, where they defeated Ajax 2-0. He subsequently left United to rejoin his boyhood club Everton; he later returned to Old Trafford as an Everton player.

Scholes, Berbatov, and Valencia to join Rooney in Legends game

The 38-year-old will join an illustrious list of former United legends participating in the match, including Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Dimitar Berbatov, and Antonio Valencia.

Other confirmed participants include Darren Fletcher, Anders Lindegaard, and Wes Brown.

Following the end of his playing career, Rooney transitioned into management, taking on roles at Derby County and DC United. He also had a brief stint as manager of Birmingham City before joining Plymouth Argyle earlier this year.

Rooney's return to Old Trafford will be a great moment for both him and United fans, as he continues to make his mark on the football world.
