Muthomi has started all of Wazito's games since first choice keeper, Ezekiel Owade, got injured against Tusker.

Wazito FC head coach Charles Odera has praised keeper Tom Muthomi with his skills being integral in getting two league wins on the bounce in their battle against relegation.

Muthomi came on as a substitute in their 2-0 loss to Tusker at the Ruaraka Grounds three weeks ago following an injury to first-choice keeper Ezekiel Owade, and made a string of saves to deny Tusker from adding more goals to their tally.

He generally also looked very assured in his command of his 18-yard area and injected confidence into his defense with his organizational skills.

Odera decided to keep him in goal for their last two league wins, and his faith in the custodian has been justified, as the club are now on 19 points, just two behind Mathare United.

"Our first choice keeper Owade was unlucky. He picked up an injury but he is doing well and recovered, but Muthomi has been doing well since stepping in and has not made any case to be dropped,” he said.

“Muthomi is a keeper with experience. I worked with him at APS Bomet so he is a keeper I have no doubts about. When he was given the opportunity, he took it with both hands.

“He is a guy with an exceptional attitude and is very positive. Sometimes, there are players who are grumpy and throw tantrums because they are not playing. Muthomi is different.

“He has excellent organizational skills which help him organize his defense, making his work easier. That is his job, It is not all about making saves.”

Wazito will play Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
