The Bafana Bafana excluded Teboho Mokoena from the squad to face Benin Republic amid ineligibility scandal.
The Bafana Bafana have dropped Teboho Mokoena, who is not in the matchday squad for their CAF World Cup qualifiers clash against Benin Republic.
The 28-year-old has been the subject of a scandal, as he was fielded in their last match against Lesotho after having accumulated enough yellow cards to warrant suspension.
He has now been dropped from the squad to face Benin Republic at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, which can be viewed as an admission of guilt from South Africa.

The details
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder had received two yellow cards within four qualifying matches, which made him ineligible for their matchday five fixture against Lesotho.
However, the 28-year-old started the match, and played for 82 minutes as the Bafana Bafana triumphed 2-0 over their neighbours.
After the game, it was unearthed that he had previously received two yellow cards; hence, the Lesotho Football Association have sent a formal query to CAF and FIFA.

The Nigerian Football Federation is also expected to do the same, as if FIFA confirms that Mokoena was indeed ineligible, Bafana Bafana will receive a three-point deduction, as well as a fine. This will see Group C open up as South Africa are the current leader and will effectively improve Nigeria’s chance of qualifying.
Mokoena dropped from the Benin match
In a recent development, South Africa did not name the midfielder in their ongoing match against Benin Republic.
While the rest of the group awaits FIFA’s decision, it remains to be seen whether South Africa will be punished for fielding Teboho or if their decision to remove him from the squad against Benin Republic will count for something.
