Ikpeba speaks on divine intervention
According to reports from Caf Online, Ikpeba expressed his joy at what the team achieved in the 1996 Olympic tournament.
"During our semi-final against Brazil... We trailed 3-1, then equalized 3-3 to win in 4-3 in extra time. We are qualified for the final stage. And as they say, a final is not played, it is won," Ikpeba shared.
Despite being perceived as underdogs, Nigeria defeated formidable opponents en route to clinching the gold medal. Ikpeba expressed his joy and pride in participating in such a historic tournament.
He continued, "Joy, I was so happy to participate... Pride too when I remember the teams that we beat, Mexico in the quarter-final, Brazil in the semi-final, then Argentina in the final,"
The victory not only brought immense joy to Ikpeba but also served as a testament to the capabilities of African football on the global stage.
"We Africans have shown that this is possible. It’s a tournament that I will never be able to forget," Ikpeba emphasized.
Ikpeba, who also contributed to Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 1994, cherishes the memories of both achievements, considering them significant milestones in his career.
