Karisa holds prior experience playing in Morocco, after featuring for top division side MC Oujda between September 2018 and January 2020, playing 22 times and scoring four games.

Forward Milton Karisa is in a confident mood ahead of Vipers SC’s opening CAF Champions League group clash against Raja Casablanca.

The Venoms will be playing their first ever group stage game at the Muhamad V Complex in Casablanca on Friday, and according to Karisa, they should not be fazed by the occasion.

“We are prepared for the big task ahead. Playing against Raja Casablanca will not be easy because they have the experience at this level, and it's only our first time,” Karisa explained ahead of the game.

“But that does not take away the fact that we can go there and get a positive result,” he added.

Karisa holds prior experience playing in Morocco, after featuring for top division side MC Oujda between September 2018 and January 2020, playing 22 times and scoring four games.

Teammate Murshid Juuko also holds prior experience playing in Morocco, specifically for Raja Casablanca.

Karisa therefore points to having players exposed to the football climate in the North African country as a confidence booster to the side.

“With the experience I have gained playing in Morocco, and from prior experiences (with the national team), I feel confident playing in such conditions,” Karisa explained.

“And most of the players in the squad were here (in North Africa) for CHAN so they should have an idea of what to expect in terms of the weather and the conditions with the fans on match day.”

“We are ready mentally for anything, and have to be convinced of our ability as a team and that will give us a chance,” he mentionaed.

The Vipers captain is part of 18 players that have made the trip to Casablanca, with striker Yunus Ssentamu also in time for the game after recovering from a groin injury that has kept him out since November.

The duo are expected to partner January signing Israel Desire Tety who will be keen to impress on his continental debut for the club.

Midfielder Robert Serge Mwenge is in line for his Vipers debut after missing out on the cup game in Hoima.

Martin Kizza is also part of the Vipers squad in Morocco with Livingstone Mulondo who has been thrown back into the squad after overcoming a fracture that saw him sit out for two months.
