Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie has sent a strong warning to Nigeria's Super Eagles ahead of their AFCON 2025 qualifier.
The message coming from Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie is that the Cheetahs are ready to take down Nigeria's Super Eagles in their crucial AFCON 2025 qualifier in Abidjan.
Mounie, who'll lead his team against the Super Eagles at Abidjan's Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, is confident of a repeat victory after their 2-1 win in June.
"We must put up a performance to stand a chance of winning," Mounie said in a press conference.
"I remember telling my teammates that when I was with Stade Brest, we stood up to big teams in the French championship."
He drew parallels with his past experience, saying:
"I told them we can do the same against Nigeria. We are capable of looking them in the eye. We must do that tomorrow - be actors in this match, not just spectators."
The Super Eagles need a point to qualify but will be wary of underestimating their West African opponents, especially after the defeat in June.
Kickoff is 8pm WAT.
