Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca reacted to his team's draw against Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was satisfied with his team's performance in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal, as he believed it showed his team were capable of competing against any team in the world.

Chelsea step up

Mikel Arteta's side received high praise from Maresca before this clash, as the Italian tactician named them as one of the best teams in the division. He even went as far as admitting they were inferior to the Gunners, which expectedly met chagrin from the Blues' faithful.

Chelsea started the game with visible respect for their opponents on the day but soon grew into their own. The match was largely even for most of the encounter, but Arsenal seemed the sharper of both sides.

Kai Havertz got the ball into the back of the net around the half-hour mark and shushed the home crowd who had booed him. However, VAR chopped off his effort.

Just about 30 minutes of playtime after, they scored a legitimate goal, and Odegaard’s telegraphed pass found Martinelli, who finished with aplomb.

Chelsea roused themselves after the goal and got an equaliser through Pedro Neto in the 70th minute, ten minutes after Martinelli’s strike. The Blues had a few more chances come their way to seal a victory against bitter rivals, but eventually settled for a draw.

What Maresca said

The former Leicester boss was happy about his team's performance against a side he evidently respects, as he stated that his team showed they could compete against any team.

“We can compete, I've said that many times. We can compete, no matter what the competition, despite the fact there are clubs, like Arsenal, that have had the same manager for five years. We are behind, but this doesn't mean we aren't going to compete. We are Chelsea and we are going to compete in every game.
