Mason Greenwood shows Man United what they are missing after double on Marseille debut
Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood has settled in nicely at Olympique Marseille after scoring a brace on his debut against Brest.
Greenwood’s career took a separate course with a much lower trajectory after he was arrested and charged in 2022 for attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The charges were brought by the Crown's Prosecution Service after videos showing and narrating alleged assault from Greenwood. Hence, even after the charges were dropped due to the withdrawal of key witnesses, he could not make a full unconditional return, as he had been condemned by the court of public opinion.
This led to his exit from Manchester United and subsequent loan to Getafe and has kept him out of English national team duty.
What Carsley said
Greenwood joined Marseille this summer and has set Ligue 1 alight. He has scored five goals in three matches so far; hence, England boss Carsley was questioned about the striker's omission.
He replied, saying they did not consider calling him up. He admitted to being aware of his exploits in France but maintained that calling up Greenwood was not something they considered.
“Mason isn’t a player that we can consider,” he said, per GFFN. I’m aware of how he is doing but he wasn’t under consideration.”
Carsley led England to a win under his first manager as Three Lions boss with a 2-0 win over Ireland thanks to goals from Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.
Meanwhile, Greenwood is of Jamaican heritage, and the Reggae Boys leadership have opened their doors to welcoming the striker if the England snub continues.
