The manager announced after defeating Astana in the Europa Conference League that his team has only 25 players.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has cleared the air about his team having a bloated squad with over 40 players.

The manager made it known after his side defeated Astana in the Europa Conference League that he only has 25 players in his team.

Chelsea secured their place in the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League with a comfortable 3-1 victory over FC Astana in freezing conditions.

Goals from Marc Guiu and Renato Veiga put the Blues in front before a stunning strike from Marin Tomasov pulled one back for the hosts. Despite the late goal, Chelsea dominated the match and comfortably secured three points.

"We didn’t have 40-45 players at the beginning of the season. I said many times that our squad was 25 players.

"In this moment it is still 25. The difference in terms of squad between us and the rest is exactly the same number of players," he said via  HaytersTV.

Maresca also highlighted the importance of managing the squad, given the demanding schedule and the long travel to Kazakhstan.

"Eight hours is not a normal time (to travel) for a game. We have to go there. We have to play and we are going to try and do our best while also thinking about the next game," he added.  

Chelsea will face Brentford in their next Premier League match, hoping to continue their impressive form and climb the table.
