Salah reaches two new Premier League milestones in Liverpool’s dominant win over West Ham
Mohamed Salah delivered another standout performance as Liverpool cruised to a commanding 5-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday night, breaking and setting new records.
Salah on fire
After consecutive seasons in which he failed to hit the 20-goal mark in a league season and posted an extended run of poor form at the turn of the year in both seasons, Salah's showing this term has caught many unaware.
Only halfway through the campaign, he has already hit 30 goal contributions (17 goals, 13 assists), better than his tally for the whole of last season, and only one shy of the season before.
The 32-year-old is on course for the best season of his career, and Liverpool could lose him immediately after, as his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
What Slot said
Salah's contract situation has been a source of anguish for many Liverpool fans, as the former Basel man confirmed that he was yet to be offered a renewal, nor were they close to any sort of agreement.
Analysts believe Liverpool are wary of a dip in form from the Egyptian; hence their reticence to commit financially or offer Salah anything but a short-term contract.
Slot spoke in line with this reasoning, as after the Pharaoh striker's majestic display against West Ham, he deemed him the best footballer in the world but admitted they did not expect him to improve to his current standard.
"We didn't know Mohamed Salah could get any better... but somehow he has,” he told reporters, per Fabrizio Romano. “Best player in the world? If you look at his numbers, you can't argue with it.”
