Paris Saint Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi declares that the club is moving away from their previous 'galactico' approach.
Nasser Al Khelaifi has conveyed his message about Paris Saint-Germain's new project, revealing that the club will no longer stockpile superstars as they have done in the past decade.
Al Khelaifi was responding to questions about the future of star player Kylian Mbappe whose contract expires at the end of the current season and has been flirting with Real Madrid for years.
The PSG owner stated emphatically that the goal for the French champions going forward is to build a competitive team devoid of superstars.
Al-Khelaifi lays down the law for PSG's future
"We don't need more stars. We need players who respect the shirt, who respect the club and who give everything for the Paris Saint-Germain logo or shirt. What do we want? Nobody can guarantee the result," he said emphatically.
The club owner made an example of French youngster Warren Zaire-Emery as the future of the club and the kind of identity expected from their players going forward.
"Warren has to become the Steven Gerrard of the club. He has to spend his whole life here. He comes from here, he loves the club. He's here for the club. He's a great kid. His upbringing, his family... I like him a lot. He's an example for the youngsters. I'm confident he'll renew," he said.
Al-Khelaifi also spoke on potential transfers, revealing that Paris Saint Germain have no plans to carry out business this January because of the flurry of activity last summer.
"We already signed in the winter and we have played two games since then. But we are looking at all the possibilities. If you ask me if it's all over, I say no. We are looking. We are looking. We are looking. But if you ask me if you are sure about signing someone, I also say no.
