Adegboye Onigbinde has voiced concerns about Bruno Labbadia's recent appointment as head coach of the Super Eagles.

A former coach of the Super Eagles, Adegboye Onigbinde, has expressed his reservations about the recent appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach.

On Tuesday morning, the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed announced the announcement of Bruno Labbadia as the new Super Eagles coach, stating that the NFF Executive Committee approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

The German tactician who was named to replace Finidi George has sparked debate among Nigerian football fans.

Onigbinde, speaking to Complete Sports, directed the responsibility for the decision towards the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

"It is only the people that took the decision [to appoint Labbadia] who can best explain why," he stated.

Onigbinde emphasised that the problems plaguing Nigerian football are beyond technicalities.

"Like I always tell you, the problem of Nigerian football is not technical administrative. No matter how good a coach is, if the administration of the game is not in order then there is a problem," he said.

Onigbinde further questioned the rationale behind the appointment, highlighting the existing talent pool within the Super Eagles.

"Haven’t we had array of great talents in the Super Eagles? What has been the result? Mind you, the first time I handled the Super Eagles, I had a pack of young players. So it’s not a matter of having an array of talents."

Onigbinde's comments raise questions about the NFF's decision-making process and suggest that he believes a more fundamental solution is needed to address the challenges faced by Nigerian football.

Labbadia's immediate test is to lead the Super Eagles in two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7th in Uyo and Rwanda on Tuesday, September 10th in Kigali.
