Vinicius's injury
As Pulse Sports reported, Real Madrid's preparations for their crucial Champions League clash against Liverpool took a hit after they announced that star forward Vinicius Junior will be sidelined for up to a month.
The 24-year-old sustained a thigh tear during the weekend's La Liga victory over Leganes, which helped Los Blancos slash their margin on Barcelona. While the victory came as a boost, Vinicius's injury was a disappointing blow.
What Tebas said
Speaking at the AFE awards yesterday, Tebas attributed Vinicius's injury and the current spike in players getting sidelined to fixture congestion.
“It is clear that the calendar is overloaded. There are many competitions, and it causes injuries. It is an objective fact. La Liga has sued FIFA in the European Union.”
The expansion of the Champions League has added extra two games to the competition’s group stage, while FIFA's proposed Club World Cup tournament is set to shorten summer recovery time for teams that qualified for the tournament.
