Arteta has confirmed that his team can win the Champions League
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shifted his focus to winning the Champions League, as the team's Premier League title hopes continue to dwindle.
The Gunners' goalless draw against Nottingham Forest last week, combined with Liverpool's 2-0 win over Newcastle United, has left Arsenal 13 points behind the Reds in the Premier League standings.
What Arteta said
However, Arteta remains optimistic about his team's chances in the Champions League, citing their impressive defensive record and ability to score goals in the competition.
"We have those resources, that's what the team has already done," Arteta said in a pre-match press conference.
He continued, "Now we have to continue to do it. When you look at the teams that have been very successful, the defensive record is critical."
Arsenal qualified for the round of 16 after finishing third in the league stage, conceding just three goals in eight outings.
Arteta believes that this defensive solidity, combined with the team's ability to score goals, makes them a strong contender for the Champions League title.
Arteta's men will face their next challenge in the competition on Tuesday, as they take on PSV in the first leg of the round of 16 fixture. They will then face rivals Manchester United in the Premier League next Sunday.
