The Super Eagles' interim head coach, Austin Eguavoen, has addressed worries regarding the team's lacklustre performance against Benin on Thursday.
Nigeria played a 1-1 draw against Benin at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
However, the result did not depend on their qualification, as they sealed their spot in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
Despite qualifying for the AFCON 2025 tournament, the Super Eagles team did not play their best against Benin.

Eguavoen’s press conference
Eguavoen responded to criticism of his team's performance after the game, refuting assertions that the players were complacent because they had qualified.
The coach said, "Coming into this game we haven't lost a game. So we have to maintain that standard and try to win the game, worst case scenario draw.
"We want to qualify without losing a game and we knew we're capable of, we have all the qualities whatever it takes to beat anybody anytime. Then it was more of under pressure but we didn't look at that.
"Nigeria is a team that is respected, almost won the AFCON the last time, so we have to maintain that standard."
Despite the poor performance from the team, Nigeria now has 11 points, well ahead of Benin, who is in second position with seven points.
