The Red Devils had several opportunities to take the lead, including a missed chance from Amad early in the game. However, it was Brighton that struck first as Danny Welbeck capitalised on a defensive lapse to score the opening goal.

Manchester United thought they had equalised through Marcus Rashford, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Amad later redeemed himself with a deflected goal to level the score.

The match was ultimately decided in the 95th minute when Brighton's Joao Pedro headed in a cross from Adingra to put the scores at 2-1.

Meanwhile, a controversial moment occurred earlier when substitute Zirkzee touched the ball before Alejandro Garnacho scored, leading to the goal being disallowed.

Onana reflects defeat against Brighton

After the game at Brighton, Onana has remained optimistic, insisting that United were the better team despite the result.

"We came here to win, unfortunately, we didn't win. We had a great game, I think we were better than them, we had more chances, we had more possession, we had more control of the game" Onana said according to ManUtd.com.

He pointed to the disallowed goal but stressed the importance of moving forward, "Unfortunately, they disallowed us a goal, but that's part of football, part of life; we have to move on."

With a crucial clash against Liverpool on the horizon, Onana emphasised the need for analysis and preparation, "Of course, we're going to talk with each other, we're going to sit and analyse the videos and what went wrong, and from there, we will move."

"Big games are coming, big clubs, so the expectation is here, it will be very high," he concluded.

Onana and his Manchester United team mates would be aiming for some positive when they come up against Liverpool.
