Napoli director, Mauro Moliso has admitted that the club made a mistake with Victor Osimhen last summer.
Napoli director Mauro Moliso has conceded that the club made a mistake by not selling Victor Osimhen last summer when the striker's stock was at an all-time high.
Osimhen's impressive displays for Napoli in the 2022/23 season, which yielded 26 goals in 32 league appearances and helped the team win the Scudetto, had sparked intense interest from top European clubs.
However, instead of capitalizing on the demand, Napoli opted to retain Osimhen and even signed him to a new contract in December, which included a hefty €120m release clause. This move has now backfired, as the clause has effectively priced Osimhen out of a move, deterring potential suitors.

Napoli chief admits Osimhen mistake
"We made some mistakes in Osimhen's management," Moliso admitted via Corriere dello Sport.
"I arrived in Naples in mid-July and knew there had been a very high offer from one of the biggest teams in Europe. In hindsight, we are all good, but perhaps we could have sold him."
Moliso's words suggest that the club is now regretful of their decision, and Osimhen's future is uncertain as a result. With the heavy release clause proving a significant barrier.
Osimhen has been linked to a host of clubs but there remains a strong chance of the 25-year-old continuing at Napoli for the next season at least.
