Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom has called for more teams to be punished like Everton if more breaches are found
Sheffield United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has weighed in on the punishment meted out to Everton for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.
An independent Commission imposed the points deduction on Everton which saw them fall from 14th in the league with 14 points to 19th with just four points.
Heckingbottom's Sheffield United are now one place and one point ahead of Everton and the coach had a few things to say about the situation.
Paul Heckingbottom wants more teams to be punished like Everton
"I think it's opened the door to other sanctions which we can't just have one team punished anymore if there's been breaches, we suffered last season from that, me being a football fan I think it's only right," Heckingbottom said speaking to Sky Sports.
The 46-year-old spoke about Everton specifically and called for more teams to be punished equally as harsh as the Toffees were.
"From Everton's point of view, they're gonna feel hard done to because they're the first and it's the biggest punishment we've seen in the Premier League and that will only be seen as justifiable if others followed suit with bigger punishments potentially, so it's opened up all sorts," said Heckingbottom.
From a football point of view, I've honestly been impressed with Everton this season, I think they should have had more points than what they had anyway, so whilst it initially knocks them down into where they are, they've shown more than enough for me to see that they're gonna be fighting and they're more than capable to work their way out of it, we just hope we finish above them," he rounded off.
