The goalkeeper took to social media after the match to celebrate the victory, cheekily suggesting that Nigeria’s control over the game made it feel like a sightseeing trip.

Super Eagles end winless streak in style

After four consecutive winless games in their World Cup qualifying campaign, Nigeria needed a statement victory and they delivered exactly that against Rwanda.

Troost-Ekong led the Super Eagles again with class.

Victor Osimhen’s first-half brace silenced the Rwandan crowd, which included the country’s president, Paul Kagame.

The Super Eagles were in control from start to finish, dictating possession and keeping the hosts at bay, claiming a 2-0 win.

Nwabali, who barely had to break a sweat, earned his eighth clean sheet in 18 international appearances, and after the match said, “Solid win and clean sheet. We went for sightseeing. Great team spirit!!!”

Nwabali’s key to Nigeria’s success

The Chippa United shot-stopper has firmly established himself as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper since breaking into the team ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

He missed the opening two qualifiers but cemented his place with standout performances at AFCON 2023, where he helped Nigeria reach the final.

Since then, he has been a mainstay between the sticks, featuring in crucial games, including Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with South Africa and a narrow defeat to Benin Republic.

With another solid performance against Rwanda, Nwabali will look to keep his momentum going when the Super Eagles face Zimbabwe in Uyo, where a win could boost Nigeria’s standing in Group C, keeping their World Cup dream alive.
