Alex Iwobi says everyone wants to be at the FIFA World Cup, but Nigeria's situation means the Super Eagles are not going to have it easy.

In a passionate call to duty, Alex Iwobi has declared that the Super Eagles must adopt a “war” mentality to secure their place in the FIFA World Cup, acknowledging the challenges ahead for Nigeria’s national football team.

The Fulham playmaker stressed the significance of the World Cup, noting that every team in Africa is vying for a ticket to the global showpiece.

As the Super Eagles prepare for the resumption of international football in March, Iwobi is determined to help the squad return to the global stage after missing out on the last tournament held in Qatar.

Currently languishing in fifth place in Group C after four matches, Nigeria faces a formidable challenge against group leaders Rwanda in Kigali.

Iwobi spoke to the BBC about the upcoming clash, stating, “We know it’s not going to be easy because every team in Africa wants to qualify. Everyone wants to experience the World Cup; it’s the best and biggest competition in the world.”

He compared the intensity of these matches to a battle, saying, “It’s like going to war every game, but we’ll put up a fight and try and see what we can do. We’re hungry and motivated.”

Addressing the managerial changes that have plagued the team, the 27-year-old midfielder insisted that the players cannot use coaching instability as an excuse for the team’s challenges.

“We’ll never use it as an excuse because we can only hold ourselves accountable as players. No matter what manager comes into play, it’s down to us as players to give 100%.”

Super Eagles failed to pick the ticket to the World Cup against Ghana.

With Iwobi leading the charge, the Super Eagles are poised to take on the challenge ahead as they strive for a coveted spot in the World Cup.
